Ignorant Tribalism - Modern Nationalism & Prejudiced Regionalism or Sectionalism

Ibn al-Jawziyy (rahimahullah):

Umayyad Ibn Abussallt admitted that Allah’s Messenger (salAllahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) was true, and he went to meet him to accept Islaam but then he went back saying: ‘ I will never believe in a Messenger who is not from the tribe of Thaqīf.’

Abu Jahl said: By Allah, Muhammad never said a lie. But if taking care of the Ka’bah was assigned to Banu Hashim, and now Prophethood is also assigned to them, then what in it is there left for us!?

And Abu Taalib saw the miracles (mu’jizaat), but said, ‘I know you are upon the truth. If I were not worried that the women of Quraysh would make fun of me for believing in you, I would have made you happy by believing in you.’

So we seek refuge with Allah from the darkness of envy (zulma hasad), the oblivion caused by arrogance and the foolishness caused by following desires that conceal the intellect’s light.

[Sayd al-Khaatir, Ibn al-Jawziyy (rahimahullah), 679]
